New Terrain

Telluride continues this year on an unprecedented run of terrain expansion, opening Gold Hill Chutes 2-5 for the 2009-10 winter season. Revelation Bowl opened in 2008-09 as the biggest story in ski country, along with Gold Hill 1. Palmyra Peak, Black Iron Bowl and Gold Hill 6-10 opened in 2007-08 to huge public response. All told, the resort has expanded by more than 400 acres over the past three seasons, adding to Telluride’s already legendary terrain and offering some of the most spectacular skiing and riding on the planet. The resort’s vertical drop is now one of the largest in North America at 4,425 feet, with 3,845 vertical feet lift-served.

The addition of Gold Hill Chutes 2-5 gives full access off west Gold Hill ridge, with 1-10 now open to the public. Reminiscent of the long, open lines of Alaska, the spectacular terrain drops 1600 vertical feet into the Prospect Basin, including faces, couloirs and chutes all above treeline. A ride up the new Revelation Lift offers easy access, with direct skiing into Gold Hill 1, and a short 20 minute hike up a new snowcat road to the top of Gold Hill for chutes 2-10. The area is controlled by two U.S. Forest Service WWII vintage 105mm howitzers, installed last year.

Resort Dining Redefined

Telluride’s flagship restaurant, Allred’s at the top of the gondola, introduces a new and approachable dining experience, mixing local and regional, organic and original. Steaks, seafood, chops, salads and sides accompany ideal appetizers and signature cocktails. Telluride boasts some of the best non-stop resort access in the U.S., plus redesigned airport

Telluride boasts non-stop flights from more major hubs than most other resort destinations. With direct service from 9 U.S. cities, national and international connections will put guests on the slopes quicker and easier.

Guests vacationing at Telluride Ski Resort can utilize two area airports: Telluride or Montrose. The Telluride Regional Airport is currently undergoing a $58 million runway improvement project to improve safety and extend the runaway by 200+ feet. These improvements will accommodate a growing demand for a wider variety of aircraft and continuing increased service.

Service this winter includes daily non-stop flights from Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Houston and Salt Lake City, plus Newark (weekly), Atlanta (2x weekly) and Los Angeles (2x weekly) to Montrose/Telluride Airport, as well as non-stops from Denver (4x daily) and Phoenix (2x daily) into the Telluride Regional Airport. Increased service provides visitors with a great variety of carrier options, easier coast to coast connections, flexibility in departure times and lower fares.

Pricing Remains the Same, Guest Services Remain Top-of-Class

The Telluride Pass Sale runs through October 30th, with full season pass prices the same as last season. However, if four adults get together to purchase a 4Pass during the sale, the price drops to 2007 rates. Window pricing will also remain the same, as will Internet, although with slightly better discounts on multi-day adult tickets during regular and late season. As many resorts are cutting back this year, Telluride has no plans for reduction in services or programs, offering the same world-class activities and guest services that trademark the destination.

Telluride Hosts Snowboard World Cup

Telluride will be the new home of international snowboarding competition in the U.S. as the 2010 Visa U.S. Snowboardcross Cup hits the Rocky Mountains Dec. 17-20. Telluride will be the sole U.S. stop of the LG FIS Snowboard World Cup and will feature an SBX (snowboardcross), PGS (parallel giant slalom) and the newly added Team Snowboardcross competition during what will be the second in a series of five Olympic qualification events. The heat will be on in the snowboardcross as four athletes race through rollers, jumps and banked turns in an attempt to be the last racer standing. U.S. Snowboarding's men's SBX roster includes Olympic champion Seth Wescott , snowboarding legend Shaun Palmer (South Lake Tahoe, CA), and Olympic silver medalist Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton Mountain, VT).

5th Annual Subaru Telluride Freeskiing Event Hosts the World’s Best Freeskiers in February 2010. The Subaru Telluride Freeskiing World Tour Qualifier returns this season from Feb. 4-6. The Freeskiing World Tour continues on Telluride’s legendary terrain with competitors from around the globe, including Canada, U.S.A., Japan and Australia. The Ski Resort is thrilled to host this caliber of world class athletes for the fifth consecutive year.

Telluride Development Squad

The Telluride Development Squad (TDS) is an 8-session youth ski and Snowboard program offered through the Telluride Ski and Snowboard School. TDS's goal is to foster and promote skiing and snowboarding to children in a fun and safe learning environment. The program includes instruction and tactics for skiing and riding all-mountain terrain, bumps, and terrain parks. Groups are formed based on ability level and appropriate terrain is chosen based on level. The program develops a lifelong love of skiing and riding in an environment that promotes team building, mountain safety and learning.
