LG FIS WORLD CUP RETURNS TO TELLURIDE
TELLURIDE, Colo. (November 3, 2010) – The Visa U.S. Snowboardcross Cup returns to Telluride this December 15-18 as the sole U.S. stop of the LG FIS Snowboard World Cup. The event will feature Snowboard Cross (SBX) and Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) as athletes from around the world come to take part in these international competitions at the top level of the sport.
Athletes participating include two time Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott (Sugarloaf, ME), three time X Games gold medalist Lindsey Jacobellis (Stratton, VT), six time X Games gold medalist Nate Holland (Squaw Valley, CA), Olympic athlete Graham Watanabe (Sun Valley, ID) and World Championship bronze medalist Nick Baumgartner (Iron River, MI).
2010 Vancouver Olympic Snowboard Cross course designer Jeff Ihaksi will arrive in Telluride in early December to work with Telluride’s snowmaking, grooming and terrain park teams to construct and fine tune this world-class course. Peter Foley, Head Coach for US Snowboarding, will also be on hand to offer both his guidance and expertise.
The PGS will take place on Upper Misty Maiden, off of the Village Express Lift, and Lower Misty Maiden will continue to be the site for the SBX course, finishing right in Mountain Village with great opportunities for spectators both on-snow and on-foot. Over half of the SBX course will be visible from the Mountain Village Plaza.
Events begin Wednesday Dec. 15, with men’s and women’s SBX qualifications on Lower Misty Maiden. Upper Misty Maiden will see PGS action on Thursday, Dec. 16, with qualifications in the morning and finals in the afternoon. On Friday, Dec. 17, the thrilling Snowboard Cross finals will take place on Lower Misty Maiden. The new SBX Team Event rounds out the competition on Saturday, Dec. 18.
