So far in 2023, we’ve been seeing a lot of surprises… and in the best way possible! Typically, things tend to slow down after the new year. January is usually when we experience a bit of a “dry season” in terms of weather. This year we’re seeing something entirely different. We’ve accrued several inches of snow every week since the first of the year. This month’s snowfall has surpassed historical averages by 28 inches, which is nearly 60% higher. If that’s not a good sign for 2023, what is?!
We’ve had new terrain openings across the board, which during some years wouldn’t take place until mid-February. Recent openings have included: Black Iron Bowl, Milk Run, Gold Hill 1, and The Fans. More control work is being done to provide access to additional terrain soon, too. Meanwhile, the entire mountain is skiing better than ever… particularly the Lift 9 area.
Although the Lift 9 Project has been set back by several unforeseeable events, we have been fortunate to retain access to the terrain while our team continues to work hard to expedite its construction. Many locals have recognized this period of time as a blessing in disguise – and its hard to refute that! With no lift access to the 9 terrain, the snow has stayed fresher than ever. With the new Lift 9 opening soon, sometime in early to mid-February, there’s not much time left to experience this special window of opportunity. This is your sign to get a hike in and take as many laps as you can, while you can!
All lift 9 Terrain will be closed during load testing from Friday, January 27th to Monday the 30th. However, as soon as testing concludes, there will be a 5-14 day timeframe where lifties will be trained on how to operate the new equipment, and hike-to-access will be back open. Now is the time to take advantage of the perks that come from hiking this area. Before you know it, there will be a state-of-the-art, high speed lift up and running. When it does open, this period of sweet solitude while skiing 9 runs will be all but a distant memory!
Between the resorts 50th anniversary, the incredible snow we’re having, and the Lift 9 Project coming to an end, it’s safe to say there is a lot to celebrate this winter season. We’re excited to see what the next few months have in store!
