Spring Skiing, Daylight Savings Hours, and Upcoming Events at Telluride Ski Resort!

Daylight Savings

With the season wrapping up, we have a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks. Although we all had to bear through losing an hour of sleep this past Sunday, there are good things on the horizon. The days are getting longer, and the resort’s operating hours are too! Starting yesterday (Sunday, March 12th), Lift Operations’ hours extended to accommodate daylight savings time. For the remainder of the season, lifts 1, 4, and 5, as well as ski access from the San Sophia Midpoint station, will be extended by 30 minutes. This means Lift 5 will remain open until 4:00 pm instead of 3:30 and lifts 1, 4, and the Gondola (for skiing access) will remain open until 4:30. The Gondola’s hours for passenger access will remain the same. Opening hours will remain the same, with all lifts opening promptly at 9 or 9:15. This means our ski days are only getting longer! The season may be coming to a close, but we can all make the most of it by squeezing in a couple of extra laps each day.

March 14th, 2023

Extended skiing hours aren’t the only thing to look forward to in the next few weeks, though. We have an excellent lineup of events that will be sure to keep the energy high as we transition into warmer weather. To start, we have the annual Skidola Race tomorrow, at 5:15 pm. This event, presented by The Telluride Foundation, is an uphill race that begins at the base of the Gondola in Telluride and concludes at the top of the ridge beside the Gondola midpoint station. All proceeds from this event support the Peter Inglis (PI) Avalanche Fund, so be sure to get out there tomorrow and show your support! Registration for this event is available online. Tomorrow is also PIE DAY! To further commemorate Ski Patroller Peter Inglis (PI), Ski Patrol will put on their annual Torch Light Parade in his honor. This will take place after operational hours, so be sure to stick around for Après to witness this fun event. Patrollers can be seen skiing down from town side.

March 15th, 2023

The following day, (Wednesday, March 15th) we welcome you to join us in celebrating Telluride Ski Resort’s 50th Anniversary. In honor of this milestone, there will be two events that day. The first will take place at Gorrono Ranch at 2 pm, where there will be a live performance from Goldfish. Prizes will be handed out to two skiers- one with the best 70s outfit and the other to the skier with the most vertical feet gained from 9 am to 1:30 pm that day. However, if you can’t make it to the event this afternoon, don’t sweat it. There will be another performance by Goldfish that night at Club Red, starting at 8 pm. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here. We hope to see you there!

March 18th, 2023

On Saturday, March 18th, Jagged Edge will be hosting the annual Tellurando Uphill Races. The Pro (Team) Race will begin promptly at 5:30 am from Jagged Edge in town, and participants will race a whopping 18 miles to the finish line and gain 12,000 vertical feet. Later that morning, the Recreational (or Individual) Race will begin at 7:30 am at the bottom of Comp Hill beneath Lift 4. This race will extend 12 miles, and participants will gain 8,000 vertical feet from start to finish. All fees for this event, whether you’re participating as a pro or an amateur, go to support the Peter Inglis Avalanche fund. If you’d like to participate, you can register online here.

All of these events, combined with Spring Break, will make for a busy, high-energy week. However, you’ll have a solid week to rest before the next big event on Mountain – The Cardboard Sled Derby!

March 25th, 2023

Taking place on Saturday, March 25th, The Cardboard Sled Derby is a fun, family-friendly event hosted by Telluride’s One-to-One Mentoring Program. Racers build and decorate their own cardboard sleds, and bring them up to the NASTAR race course located under Lift 4 on Lower Misty Maiden. Participants will be judged on how quickly their sled gets them down the hill, and on how creatively they decorate their vehicles. This is one you won’t want to miss! To register for this event, visit One-to-One’s website.

Another week out and it will already be closing weekend. However, the Resort is finishing out the season with a fun, action-packed series of events!

April 1st, 2023

On Saturday, April 1st, Telluride Brewing Company will be hosting its annual Goose Chase Scavenger Hunt from 11 am to 3 pm. This will take place on mountain, and registration for the event will occur from 10 to 11 am at the TBC tents located in the core of Mountain Village. To participate, groups of 1-4 people simply pay a fee of $20. After the Goose Chase, TBC will be offering a happy hour and raffle from 3 to 5 pm. Show up, enjoy some signature brews, and maybe even get lucky in the process! Also late that afternoon (April 1st), the Terrain Park crew will be hosting their annual Hannorama Jama Rail Jam in honor of Hannah Smith. This event will take place at the base of Lift 4 in Mountain Village at 3:30 pm, and no registration is needed before the event. Be sure to show your support, and join the community in celebrating the life & memory of Hannah.

April 2nd, 2023 – Closing Day

The following day, Sunday, April 2nd, will bring the season to a close. The Resort will celebrate the great season we had with its annual Closing Day Party at Gorrono Ranch. The annual pond skim tradition will take place from 12 pm to 2 pm this year. If you want to participate, be sure to register at Gorrono from 10 am to 11 am – get there promptly, as spots fill up quickly! DJ Wombat will be performing throughout the afternoon to keep the celebration going on. We hope to see a crowded beach, so make sure you get your turns in and then head on by!

If you can’t make it to every event, don’t worry, but be sure to get your turns in and enjoy the rest of the great snow we’ve had this season. There will be plenty of opportunities to connect with familiar faces at one of the many events we’re having. We hope you are able to come out and celebrate with us one of these days over the next two weeks, and we wish you an incredible off season!
